On the road to a nuclear-free world, neither civilian nor military

New themes have been added to the dynamics of the World Social Forum since the first session held in Porto Alegre in 2001. The first Anti-Nuclear Social Forum was held in Tokyo in the spring of 2016, For a global network towards a nuclear-free world "was launched. In Montreal, a second Antinuclear Forum was held on the occasion of the WSF.

In 2017, the third nuclear World Anti-Nuclear Forum will be held in France, the most nuclearized country in the world.

To discuss all issues related to the fight against the civilian and military nuclear we invite you to an international meeting where we will share our experiences and seek together the means to act for the emergence of a world without nuclear weapons and Without the production of nuclear energy.

#Fukushima311: 26 FEB. PARIS – Pokaz filmu 'Pokrywa Słońca. Fukushima' | dyskusja po filmie

(facebook event page) Pokaz filmu 'Pokrywa Słońca. Fukushima' | dyskusja po filmie

Zapraszenie na pokaz filmu 'Pokrywa Słońca' kierujemy do Polonii francuskiej.

Fukushima, 11 marca 2011

Bada napiętą i pełną emocji sytuację w obliczu chaosu i dezinformacji. Ukazuje kontrastujące postawy dziennikarzy i polityków.

11 marca 2011 roku wschodnia Japonia zostaje zniszczona w wyniku wielkiego trzęsienia ziemi. Tego dnia cały kraj musi stawić czoło skutkom katastrofy w elektrowni jądrowej w Fukushimie. Dochodzi do awarii systemów chłodzenia, a temperatura w reaktorach wciąż rośnie. Japonia staje w obliczu kryzysu porównywalnego z katastrofą nuklearną w Czarnobylu.
Elektrownia zamienia się w wielkiego, groźnego potwora. Naukowcy, zaskoczeni i zszokowani rozwojem wydarzeń, przyjmują błędne założenia i podejmują złe decyzje. Premier zostaje wrzucony w chaos informacyjny.
Obliczanie bilansu zniszczeń trwa do dzisiaj.

* The COP21 just ended. The challenge for antinuclear denounce the manipulation of the process by the French government and the nuclear industry and counteract the propaganda of EDF, which had launched a major communication campaign to go nuclear for clean energy. Mission accomplished for the upstream network that, and during the COP, has largely mobilized, despite the state of emergency and the state's maneuvers to undermine the actions planned by the associations. Back to images on a campaign drums beating!

Complaint Filed Against French State Utility EDF- #COP21 Sponsor for False Advertising

Video published on Oct 22, 2013 - members of the public show EDF & govt what they think of nuclear energy policy in the UK and their proposed Hinkley C reactors.

DECEMBER 1, 2015: Based on translation of Sortir du Nucléaire press release, with our additional commentary in brackets:
Greenwashing for COP21: EDF lies will not save the climate!
At the approach of COP21 French State owned EDF, official sponsor of that event, launched a big publicity campaign to present itself as the “Official Partner of a Low Carbon World”. The campaign glorifies their electricity production, which they allege is 98% CO2 free, due to nuclear power.
To denounce this false advertising, the “Sortir du nucléaire” [Nuclear Exit] Network filed a complaint before the Advertising Ethics Jury and brought a civil liability suit against EDF before the Tribunal de grande instance of Pari [Paris Tribunal-Court]
EDF is not a “Low Carbon World Partner”!
In the context of the COP 21 world climate conference, being held in Paris [30 Nov to 11 Dec. 2015], EDF is trying to present itself as a virtuous player in the fight against climate change.
In reality, EDF operates 16 coal plants and is ranked the 19th worst greenhouse gas emitter in the world! EDF pretends to act “all over where [it] is present” for carbon free electricity. How can one not to be scandalized by that affirmation, when one knows that EDF’s world emissions represent 80 million tonnes of CO2 per year? [1]
EDF is lying: its electricity is not “98% CO2-free”!

Nuclear power and the French energy transition: It’s the economics, stupid!

BULLETIN OF ATOMIC SCIENTISTS
January/February 2013
Mycle Schneider

France is at an energy crossroads. To meet future electricity needs, the country could extend the operating lives of nuclear power plants beyond 40 years, accepting the safety challenges and costs of such a move, or it could change its energy mix, moving away from nuclear power and toward energy-efficiency measures and other energy sources.

Until recently, the French government had refused even to examine the possibility of reducing the country’s reliance on nuclear power. But a study by independent French experts suggests that staying the nuclear course would be more expensive and less environmentally beneficial than authorities make it out to be. The difficult financial situation of two state-controlled firms involved in nuclear energy, EDF and Areva SA, will seriously affect the government’s operating margins. Those financial difficulties, the aging reactor fleet, and public opinion—which is largely in favor of a nuclear phase-out—will force the government to make fundamental choices in the near future about its energy strategy.

From the 1960s until the 2012 presidential elections, the French government had overwhelmingly and unwaveringly supported the nuclear power industry, not even budging after the Fukushima catastrophe. When the nuclear path is questioned, French political leaders and nuclear industry representatives frequently respond by pointing to the country’s inexpensive electricity and relatively low greenhouse gas emissions. Any suggestion that nuclear power’s share of the national energy mix might be lowered or phased out altogether tends to be met with dire predictions of environmental and economic disaster.

For example, in its 2012 annual reference document, Électricité de France SA (EDF), the Paris-based, state-controlled firm that operates power-generating reactors, stated that a reduction from 75 percent to 50 percent in nuclear energy’s share of electricity production by 2030 would raise electricity prices by 75 percent, increase greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent, and force a “substantial” increase in fossil fuel imports (EDF Group, 2012). A full nuclear exit by 2030, EDF warned, would double electricity prices and increase greenhouse gas emissions fivefold.

These warnings, however, are largely based on unlikely—perhaps even unreasonable—energy scenarios and ignore the increasingly poor financial situations of EDF and Areva SA, the state-controlled firm that builds nuclear plants and provides a full range of fuel services. The warnings also do not account for another important fact: By 2020, 22 of France’s 58 nuclear power reactors will have operated for 40 years. The French Court of Accounts, an independent agency tasked with examining public spending, calculates that, if these plants are retired, the country will have to build at least 11 new, third-generation nuclear plants by 2020 to maintain the current nuclear-generation level—a target industrially impossible to achieve.

France stands at an energy crossroads. It can extend the operating lives of nuclear power plants beyond 40 years, accepting the safety challenges and costs such a move mandates, or it can change its energy mix, moving away from nuclear and toward energy-efficiency measures and other energy sources. Not until last year’s presidential election had the government even examined the possibility of reducing the country’s reliance on nuclear power. But a study by independent French experts suggests that staying the nuclear course would be more expensive and less environmentally beneficial than authorities make it out to be.

*** POSTPONED *** Flood of public interest prompts nuclear hearing delay - thestar.com: A flood of public interest has prompted Canada’s nuclear regulator to delay hearings into the overhaul of the Darlington nuclear station. Hearings were due to open Nov. 13 before the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission in Courtice, near Oshawa. But the commission said Friday that the hearings have been put off until Dec. 3. The delay is because of the “high number of interventions,” according to the notice. A commission spokesman said there have been 200 interventions filed, with 90 groups or individuals requesting time for oral presentations. Ontario Power Generation, which owns and runs the reactors, is proposing to give the reactors a mid-life overhaul.
